Alcohols are a versatile range of solvents used in large quantities in a wide range of applications. Very miscible with water, alcohols are used extensively in personal care, cleaning products, pharmaceuticals, surface coatings, crop protection and a number of other applications. Ethanol can be manufactured synthetically or through fermentation, with the fermentation grades used in the beverage industry and as an additive in biofuels.
